ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

Merin Capital is a specialist investment platform focused on energy transition infrastructure.

We operate at the intersection of infrastructure, capital and execution, deploying flexible capital into projects where complexity, timing and structural opportunity converge. Our mandate is defined by discipline, our approach by deep sector knowledge, and our ambition by the scale of what the energy transition demands.

Merin was established to address a specific and growing need in the market: the absence of capital that is both patient enough to engage at the development stage and sophisticated enough to manage the execution risk that follows. We are not a generalist investor. We are a specialist platform, purpose-built for the infrastructure of the energy transition.

Our Thesis

A structural shift in energy infrastructure.

The global energy system is undergoing a fundamental transformation. The transition from centralised, dispatchable generation to decentralised, intermittent renewable supply is not cyclical. It is structural, irreversible and capital intensive.

This shift is redefining how power systems operate. As renewable penetration increases, volatility in supply, pricing and grid stability is no longer an exception. It is becoming the baseline condition across the markets in which we invest.

The implication is straightforward: energy infrastructure must evolve to support a fundamentally different operating environment.

Storage and grid infrastructure are now critical system requirements

Battery Energy Storage Systems and supporting grid infrastructure have moved from complementary technologies to core requirements of the modern power system.

They enable firming of intermittent renewable generation, frequency and system stability services, energy arbitrage across increasingly volatile price curves, and the deferral and optimisation of network investment. As a result, storage is transitioning from an adjacent opportunity to foundational infrastructure within the energy system.

A widening gap between opportunity and execution

Despite strong underlying fundamentals, the deployment of grid-scale energy infrastructure remains constrained. Increasing complexity across development, approvals and grid connection, capital fragmentation across early-stage and pre-construction phases, misalignment between traditional financing structures and evolving revenue models, and execution risk across procurement and market integration have all contributed to a structural gap between projects that should be built and projects that are financeable and executable.

This gap is not closing. In our view, it is widening.

Where value is created

In this environment, value is increasingly concentrated in the transition from development to delivery. Projects that reach grid connection certainty, bankable technical design, structured revenue pathways and construction readiness experience a step-change in risk profile and valuation. This is the stage at which capital is least flexible, execution risk is highest and timing is most critical.

It is also where Merin focuses.

Why Merin

Merin is built around three core principles that define how we engage with every opportunity.

Selectivity

We prioritise quality and alignment over volume. Our pipeline is curated with discipline and our investment decisions are grounded in a rigorous assessment of market fundamentals, project-specific risk and counterparty credibility. We would rather pass on ten marginal opportunities than compromise on one.

Structure

We design capital solutions tailored to the specific requirements and lifecycle risk of each project. Cookie-cutter financing structures have limited utility in a sector as dynamic and complex as energy transition infrastructure. Our ability to structure with flexibility is a core part of the value we bring.

Execution

We engage actively with our counterparties to advance projects through to delivery. Capital is necessary, but it is rarely sufficient. Our team brings hands-on execution capability and a practical understanding of what it takes to move a project from development to construction readiness and beyond.

Our Team and Network

Merin brings together experience across infrastructure investment, project development, capital structuring and energy markets. Our team has operated across the full project lifecycle and understands the challenges that arise at each stage.

We are supported by a network of industry participants, technical advisors and strategic partners who extend our capability and deepen our market intelligence. This network is not incidental to our platform. It is central to how we source, assess and execute.

Peter Rawlings
